چکیده

Introduction : Extended-spectrum ?-lactamase (ESBL) is a mutated enzyme that can hydrolyze beta-lactam antibiotics. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence rate, characteristics patients, antibiotic use and outcome urinary tract infections (UTIs) due ESBL-producing Escherichia coli Klebsiella pneumoniae at Dr Zainoel Abidin General Hospital Aceh.Method samples were all isolated from urine culture UTI cases. Patient data extracted medical records. UTIs assessed as clinical improvement or death within maximum 30 days treatment.Result results obtained 63 patients with caused by E. K. pneumonia which 52.4% them ESBL producers. higher than pneumoniae, 63.5% 36.5% respectively. producers more in number non-ESBL, conversely mostly non-ESBL. predominant women 52.4%, most cases 56-64 years old. Antibiotic therapy given before after generally ceftriaxone. producing showed 26/33 (78.8%) experienced improvement, however, 7/33 (21.2%) died. Conclusion irrational ceftriaxone has led poor for patient.

Extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae in diabetic foot infection.

AIMS Diabetic foot lesions are a major medical, social, and economic problem and are the leading cause of hospitalization for patients with diabetes, worldwide. ESBL-producing bacteria may not be detectable by routine disc diffusion susceptibility test, leading to inappropriate use of antibiotics and treatment failure. There is not much information on ESBL-producing organisms causing diabetic f...

Risk factors and outcome in extended spectrum beta-lactamase producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia.

Given our interest in the epidemiology of nosocomial infection, and the impact of multidrug resistance, I read with great interest the study by Dr. Memon et al1 regarding risk factors and mortality associated with bacteremia caused by extended-spectrum ß-lactamase producing (ESBL) Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. In this study, the only variable identified as a significant risk factor...

Complicated urinary tract infection caused by extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli

With great interest, we read the article by Pacheco et al in the Journal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, which reported that multidrug-resistant, extended-spectrum b-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli is an important pathogen in nosocomial urinary tract infection, causing great concern in therapeutic failure. Here, we report a patient who was diagnosed with complicated urina...

Aminoglycoside therapy for childhood urinary tract infection due to extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae

BACKGROUND The rate of urinary tract infections (UTIs) due to extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacterial strains requiring carbapenem therapy has been increasing in children. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of non-carbapenem antibiotic therapy on childhood UTIs caused by ESBL-producing Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae. METHODS Medical records of children...
